Why it is Beneficial for All Appraisers to Have Mentors

I credit much of my success as an appraisal business owner to my mentors and the mastermind groups that I have had the privilege to be a part of. I have gained so much wisdom from these individuals as I have rubbed shoulders with them.

Ultimately, the models of one-on-one mentoring and group mentoring push me to become better as an appraiser and a business owner. As part of our human nature, we are much more likely to achieve our goals if we are accountable to someone other than ourselves. It is also extremely helpful to have someone else to bounce our ideas off of. It is important to find someone who has your best interest at heart, is willing to be honest with you, and helps you think outside the box.

I suggest finding a mentor that is not family or someone that you already have a friendship with because it will allow your relationship to be more professional. Find someone who you respect and want to learn from. Make sure that it is equally beneficial for them as it is for you either monetarily or in some other form of repayment.

If you are not currently involved in a mastermind group and/or do not currently have a business mentor, I highly encourage you to change that. This is not a time or money sacrifice; it is an investment. I have found the mastermind/mentorship principle to be extremely beneficially in my own life and expect it will be for yours as well.
