After reading a comment awhile back by someone who was wanting to know what things somebody would need in order to become an appraiser, I decided to put together a list. Now, this list does not include everything that an appraiser might want or even should have if they want to be really successful, but it includes the necessities. This list is not meant for individuals who are already appraisers, but for individuals who are just starting out on their appraisal journey.
These are the things you will need in order to start an appraisal business:
- An appraisal license
- E&O insurance
- MLS access
- A computer (either a laptop or desktop computer)
- Dual monitors (yes, you need two)
- A desk and chair
- High speed internet
- a la mode software with mobile (There are other appraiser softwares you could use, but in my opinion, this is the best.)
- A smartphone
- A laser measurer
- Dropbox and/or Google Drive
- A reliable vehicle
- A good attitude
Once again, this is not a comprehensive list. In order to run a really successful business you will likely want to include some other things such as business cards, but this is an overview of what you will need to get your appraisal business started.

You missed the time and the education requirements. I know you listed the license first but, that a biggy. That’s if you are starting from scratch.
Honesty and integrity should not be overlooked
Before becoming an appraiser how about seeking the truth concerning all of the parties and participants who don’t want you around http://appraisersblogs.com/FIRREA-under-attack-protecting-homeowners-from-appraisal-loopholes .
Kumbaya my Lord, Kumbaya.
Seek the truth.
